Jewelry Classes
I teach the following jewelry classes at AC Moore Craft Store in Ashburn, VA: Beginner Beading, Beginner Wire, Advanced Wire, Chain Mail, Beginner Knotting and Fancy Earrings.
Other classes noted below (*) are available privately. If you'd like to learn something that isn't listed, please contact me and we can create a class.
PRIVATE CLASSES:
Beginner Beading: Learn how to string and finish a necklace with clasp and
crimps. Also learn how to create earrings. This class is for ages 11 and up. Supplies:
Bring beads for your necklace and earrings. Simply choose what you
like. You will need 18" worth of beads and a few extra beads for
earrings. Class kit of findings will be provided. 2 hr class, Fee
$30/person for a group session, $35 private session
Beginner Wire: Learn
to work with base metal, sterling or gold-filled wire. Create findings
from raw metal. Learn how to make your own eye-pins, headpins,
earwires, clasps & learn how to hammer metal. Supplies: Students
need to bring a chasing hammer & anvil. All other supplies are
provided. 2 hr class, Fee: $30/person for a group session, $40 private
session
Advanced Wire: Class
focuses on spirals, findings, and settings. Learn to make fancy
earwires, headpins, spacers, bead caps. Create spiral chain and learn
the wire wrapped loop technique. Supplies: Students
need to bring a chasing hammer & anvil. All other supplies are
provided. 2 hr class, Fee: $30/person for a group session, $40 private
session
Introduction to Chainmail:
Students will learn the age-old art of European chain mail. You will
complete multiple samples during the class: box chain, European 4-in-1,
and Byzantine chain. These different patterns will be invaluable in
jewelry design. Supplies: 300 6mm or 8mm jumprings.
2 hr class, Fee $25/person group session, $40 private session
Beginner Knotting-
Learn how to make a classic knotted necklace for a timeless look.
Knotting also buffers precious gemstone beads and pearls against wear,
and protects them from loss in case the necklace breaks. A floating
necklace technique will also be demonstrated. Supplies:
2 beadtips, lobster clasp & closed jumpring, strand of 8 mm Czech
glass beads (25 beads), fine beading tweezers, knot cutters, card of #6
silk cord. Very important...Stretch the silk for 24 hours before class
by hanging it over a door with a weight (shoe, scissors, etc.) attached
to each end. 2hr class, $30/person group session, $35 private session
* Wire Wrapped Cuff Bracelet: Learn
new ways of working with precious metal wire in just two hours. You
will create a chic cuff bracelet embellished with beads. Supplies:
Chasing hammer & anvil, 2 ft of 14 ga SS or GF wire, 5 ft of 24 ga
SS or GF wire, large assortment of 2-6mm crystals, pearls, silver,
gold, glass or gemstone beads (more variety will make a more
interesting bracelet. 2 hr class, Fee: $25/person for a group session,
$40 private session
* Wire Crochet:
Learn the basics of how to crochet with wire. In class, you will create
a woven necklace with strands of crocheted wire and beads.
Supplies:
Large variety of 100 or more beads in sizes 4-10mm that coordinate with
each other or work in a color scheme (no large-holed beads); 15 yd
spool of 28ga wire; 2ft 22ga wire; 2 small plain cones (20x6mm); clasp.
Crochet hook will be provided for use during class. 3 hr class, Fee
$30/person group session, $45 private session
* Vintage Style Cluster Bracelet-
Create a beautiful cluster bracelet with movement and dimension. Learn
how to make your own decorative headpins by using a kitchen
torch. Supplies:
1’ large link ss chain; 10 ft Fine SS wire (24 or 22 ga or both) to
make 60 decorative headpins (bring extra wire for thicker cluster
look); clasp to match; 100 or more assortment of 2-12mm sized crystals,
pearls, firepolished glass, silver, or other beads to fit wire
(additional beads and a variety of shapes and sizes will make a thicker
and more interesting bracelet); wire cutters; round nose pliers; chain
nose pliers; kitchen torch and butane. 3hr class, Fee: $30/person group
session, $45/person private session
PRIVATE CLASS POLICY- Payment
is due at class time. No refunds or date changes will be offered if
student does not show up for class when scheduled. Cancellations a
week prior to class day may be rescheduled. No class fees are
refundable. Cancellations with less than 8 hr notice will not receive
a refund but may be resceduled as a one time offer. Student must have
all supplies when arriving to class. Class begins on time. Classes
include instruction, handout and tools for use in class. You must
purchase supplies as specified for each class as noted. Groups are
considered 3 or more students. Max # of students per class is 5.
